John Alix - Biography
John Alix is a New York-based dancer/choreographer/actor working in TV, film, and theatre. He performed in the off-Broadway show Fuerza Bruta for two years and was able to tour with the show in Peru. Highlights of his career include the Touchstone Pictures hit Step Up, HBO's Boardwalk Empire, ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition featuring a musical number starring Kristen Chenoweth, NBC's America's Got Talent Season Finale, as well as other work in the commercial field. John performed at the FOX Upfronts for their presentation of Grease Live!, as well as being a dancer for the ad campaign for the Fila collection with spokesman Shaun T. In 2016, John was honored to be a spokesperson for LAB SERIES “Men of Broadway” campaign that featured 10 Broadway and off-Broadway perfomers.
John started his dance training at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. He was accepted into the Dance Theatre of Harlem's residency where he began to put structure to his passion for movement. Soon after, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he earned a BFA in Dance/Choreography. Since graduating, he has taught for dance competitions and traveled to studios across the US to teach his unique blend of classical technique and street styles.
As a choreographer, John has worked on projects for the MoMA, Uniclo, 2(x)ist, and is thrilled to work with New York public relations guru Bronson Van Wyck as their resident choreographer. In 2017, he worked with Broadway star, Luis Salgado, as his associate choreographer on two different productions of Broadway hit In The Heights. He is very proud to have been a part of the first Spanish-translated production in the US.
One of John's favorite annual events is Broadway Bares, a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS created by Jerry Mitchell. He began his journey with the show as a dancer, and through the years, he has become a choreographer where he has found a passion for helping through art. Being a part of the creative team is the highlight of his year.
